Mx. Brighton Brooks, M.Ed. R-DMT

Hello! I’m Brighton (they/them) and I am the only registered dance/movement therapist in Alaska— movement is my passion! I am intensely curious about the stories we tell ourselves and each other and how we express those stories both verbally and nonverbally. You are the author of your story, but all tales need an audience. I am genuinely excited to meet you and serve the exploration of your story and how to live more skillfully.

I offer a range of services from workshops, ongoing classes, individual coaching, and individual and group therapy in order to cover a wide array of potential needs. I love to share somatic approaches to self-care in whatever context they are wanted!

My Experience

The bulk of my therapy experience is sitting alongside queer, transgender, and neurodivergent teens and adults as well as with survivors of power-based violence and trauma. I view human behavior as adaptive responses to broken systems, not broken people. I am a queer, nonbinary movement and group specialist. Movement has helped me develop a sense of agency in a world that can feel overwhelming and isolating. Studying somatic therapy in particular helped me develop this sense in the context of relationships and healing in community. You do not have to carry this alone.

I received my Psychology BA (2005) and Masters of Education in Counseling (2009) from UAF, but it was my recent studies with Embodied Neurobiology (2024) which facilitated a deeply felt knowing of trauma responsive practices, embodied social justice, and the power of imagination and play. Choice, dignity, connection, humor, and compassion are key components in my work as a therapist, coach, and workshop guide.
